SPRING IN ARIZONA
Vanderbilt enters the tournament ranked 3rd in the nation
The
#3 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores open the 2003 Spring season
in Tucson, Arizona, at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted
by the University of Arizona. The tournament, played at
the Arizona National Golf Club at Sabino Springs (par 72,
6134 yards), will begin Feb. 24 (Monday) and conclude Feb.
26 (Wednesday) with shotgun starts each day at 7:30 am MT.
“This is the start of the spring season
for everyone,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Freitag
said. “We are ready to get back into tournament mode
and get the rust off from the winter break. Hopefully, we
can start out like Tiger (Woods).”
The Commodores join 17 other teams in the
tournament, including six ranked in the Top 20. Teams schedule
to compete include: Arizona (1), Arizona State, Arkansas,
Brigham Young, Colorado, Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico
State, Northern Arizona, Pepperdine (8), San Jose State,
Southern California (6), SMU, Stanford, Tennessee (11),
UCLA (14) and Washington (9).
“This is a great field for us, because
we will see teams from the West,” Freitag added. “Arizona
has a great tournament tradition and we want to cover the
country and play in tournaments with great competition nationwide.”
