Named ITA National Player to Watch for 2003 5/22/03
ATHENS,
Ga. - When a player has had as much success has Vanderbilt junior
Bobby Reynolds (Acworth, Ga.), it is only logical he be recognized
for his achievements. For Reynolds, the nations top player,
the honors continue to roll in. On Wednesday night at the annual
Intercollegiate Tennis Association Banquet, Reynolds was named
National Player to Watch for 2003.
The ITA National Player to Watch award goes to a highly-ranked
non-senior player who has had an outstanding season, has not
yet won an ITA national singles title, but is expected to contend
for one in th future.
Reynolds has had the most illustrious year of any Vanderbilt
mens tennis player in history. He has registered an amazing
45-6 record for the 2002-03 season, which includes a 25-1 dual-match
mark. He has won 34 of his last 35 singles matches. Reynolds
holds the school record most career victories (98) and singles-season
victories (45). He also won the Southeastern Conference Indoor
Championship in January.
During the 2002-03 season, he has been named ITA National Player
of the Month on three occasions, which makes him the only college
tennis player ever to earn this honor three times. Reynolds,
a two-time ITA All-American, was named SEC Player of the Year
and the Tournaments Most Valuable Player. Following the
conclusion of the NCAA Team Championship, Reynolds was named
the tournaments MVP.
