Men's Tennis Concludes Stint at UK Invitational

LEXINGTON,
Ky. - Junior Chad Harris and Jens Pilgram-Larsen led the Vanderbilt
men's tennis team this weekend with undefeated records at
the University of Kentucky/Charles Fluitt Invitational at
the Hillary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
Harris concluded the weekend with a 4-0 record in the Ranked
Flight division. Harris, who entered the Invitational ranked
No. 38 nationally, defeated Matt Emery of Kentucky in straight
sets, 6-1, 6-1. For the weekend, he defeated three players
ranked in the top 65. Pilgram-Larsen also went 4-0 on the
weekend en route to the Flight B championship. On Sunday,
he defeated Elliott Datlow of Kentucky in two tight sets,
7-6 (4), 7-5.
After winning his first three matches, junior
Bobby Reynolds lost his final two matches in the Ranked Flight
division. On Sunday morning, Reynolds, the No. 9-ranked collegiate
player in the country, was defeated in straight sets, 6-1,
6-3 to No. 67-ranked Catalin Gard of Mississippi. The night
before, Reynolds fell to MTSU's Daniel Klemetz, who is ranked
No. 10 nationally, 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-0.
Sophomore Scott Brown lost his final match in the Ranked Flight
draw to No. 36-ranked Karim Benmansour of Kentucky in three
tight sets, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6. Junior Zach Dailey fell in the
third-place match of the Flight A division to Mattias Westerberg,
6-4, 6-1.
The men's tennis returns to action on Friday,
October 4, when it competes in the University of Louisville
Invitational in Louisville, Ky. The Invitational runs through
Sunday afternoon.

Men's Tennis Continues its Success at UK
Invitational 9/28/02
LEXINGTON,
Ky. - The Vanderbilt men's tennis team continues to have success
at the University of Kentucky/Charles Fluitt Invitational,
and this is evident by its results on Saturday morning.
Junior Bobby Reynolds, who is ranked No. 9
nationally, picked up his third-consecutive win of the Invitational,
as he defeated Kentucky's Karim Benmansour in three tight
sets, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-2. In the evening session, Reynolds
will take on No. 10-ranked Daniel Klemetz of Middle Tennessee
State.
Sophomore Matthew Lockin moved to 2-1 in the
Ranked Flight division, as he defeated Victor Romero in Tulane
in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Lockin will take on Kentucky's
Matt Emery in tonight's evening session.
In Flight A action, juniors Zach Dailey and
Lewis Smith both picked up wins for Vanderbilt head coach
Ken Flach. Dailey had an easy time with MTSU's Trevor, as
he won 6-2, 6-2. Smith rebounded with an opening round loss
by defeating Marek Pawelec of Mississippi State, 6-1, 7-5.
Senior Josh Tarkoff was not as fortunate this morning, as
he lost to Mattias Westerberg of Tulane in three sets, 2-6,
6-4, 6-2.
Junior Jens Pilgram-Larsen stayed undefeated
in Flight B action, as he defeated Jake Kirts of Louisville,
7-6 (5), 7-5.

Men's Tennis Concludes Day One at UK Invitational 9/27/02
LEXINGTON,
Ky. - The Vanderbilt men's tennis team wrapped up action on
day one of action at the University of Kentucky/Charles Fluitt
Invitational on Friday evening at the Hillary J. Boone Varsity
Tennis Courts.
The Ranked Flight draw was the only division
to see action on Friday evening. Junior Bobby Reynolds picked
up another win over a nationally-ranked opponent, as he easily
defeated No. 30-ranked Maxim Belski of Alabama, 6-3, 6-2.
Reynolds will take on No. 36-ranked Karim Banmansour of Kentucky
in first match on Saturday morning. he will play two matches
on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Junior Chad Harris also earned another big
win on Friday, as he defeated No. 17-ranked Michael Kogan
of Tulane in three grueling sets, 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-4. Harris
returns to the court on Saturday when he takes on No. 65-ranked
Evan Austin of Kentucky.
Sophomores Matthew Lockin and Scott Brown
both lost in their second matches on Friday. Lockin fell No.
67-ranked Catalin Gard of Mississippi in straight sets, 6-1,
6-4, while Brown dropped his second-straight match falling
to Claes Lindholm of Mississippi, 6-4, 6-4.
Besides these four players being back in action
tomorrow, senior Josh Tarkoff, juniors Zach Dailey, Lewis
Smith and Jens Pilgram-Larsen will also be in action in their
respective divisions.

Mens Tennis Off to Strong Start at
UK Invitational 9/27/02
LEXINGTON,
Ky. The Vanderbilt mens tennis team picked up
six singles wins in eight matches in the opening round of
the University of Kentucky/Charles Fluitt Invitational at
the Hillary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex.
Junior Bobby Reynolds, who entered todays match ranked
No. 9 nationally, kicked off the season with a win over No.
17-ranked Michael Kogan of Tulane, 6-1, 7-6 (5) in the Ranked
Flight division. Reynolds will have another challenging match
this evening when he takes on No. 30-ranked Maxim Belski of
Alabama.
Junior Chad Harris and sophomore Matthew Lockin also picked
up wins the same division. Harris, the No. 38-ranked collegiate
player in the nation, defeated No. 39-ranked Victor Romero
of Tulane in two tight sets, 7-6 (9), 6-4. Harris will now
have the opportunity to take on Kogan Friday evening. Lockin
earned a solid victory of Kentuckys Rahim Esmail, as
he also won in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Sophomore Scott
Brown was just edged out in Ranked Flight match this morning,
as he lost 7-5, 7-5 to No. 69-ranked Paul Ciorascu.
In Flight A action, senior Josh Tarkoff and junior Zach Dailey
advanced in the winners bracket, while junior Lewis Smith
dropped his opening round match. Tarkoff cruised to a 6-0,
6-4 win over Eastern Kentuckys John Kellert, while Dailey
also had a pretty easy time in defeating Harry Walsh of Louisville,
6-1, 6-4. Tarkoff will take on Mattias Westerberg of Tulane,
while Dailey takes on MTSUs Trevor Short tonight. Smith
will fall back into the consolation bracket to take on Marek
Pawelec of Mississippi State.
Finally, junior Jens Pilgram-Larsen was successful in his
opening Flight B singles match, as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-3
win over Ian Smith of Mississippi State.
Second round matches will kick off at 6 p.m. (EST) at the
Hillary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex.
