Basketball Signs Dan Cage

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings
announced today that Dan Cage has signed a national letter
of intent to attend Vanderbilt University. Cage originally
signed with St. Bonaventure University in the fall, but was
released from his commitment after a change in coaching staffs.
Cage
is a 6-5, 195-pounder from Indianapolis, Ind., who will play
guard for the Commodores. He was a McDonalds All-America
nominee as a senior who led his high school, Bishop Chatard,
to a 22-2 record and the 3A state championship. He averaged
18.8 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals per
game as a senior.
Cage,
who finished his four-year career with 1,116 points, recently
became the first player from his high school to be selected
for the Indiana High School All-Stars team that annually plays
the Kentucky High School All-Stars. Other honors for Cage
during his senior season included Associated Press All-State,
Indianapolis Star Player of the Year, Class 3A State Finals
MVP and Kiwanis Club Academic All-State.
As
a junior, Cage was named First-Team All-State after leading
Bishop Chatard to a 14-9 record and a state sectional championship.
He averaged 16.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists and
was also named All-City by both the Indianapolis Star and
the Indianapolis Coaches Association. Cage also earned MVP
honors at the 2002 Ohio Cage Classic Tournament and helped
lead his AAU squad to the Adidas Big Time Tournament.
