Men's Basketball Hosts the Harlem Globetrotters 11/8/02
The
Vanderbilt mens basketball team opens the 2002-03 campaign
Monday night with an exhibition game against the Harlem Globetrotters.
The game will tip off at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym and tickets
are available for $12. For more ticket information, please

The Harlem Globetrotters are synonymous with family entertainment
and great basketball skills. They have thrilled crowds for
more than 76 years with their court antics and their endless
battles with the Washington Generals.
But two years ago, the Harlem Globetrotters added another
chapter to their steeped history when they participated in
a Fall College Tour. This Harlem Globetrotters team was unlike
the show teams that have delighted fans for years.
This team was trying to win.
In November 2000, the Globetrotters played three games against
college teams and lost only to eventual national champion
Michigan State. Last fall, the Globetrotters played nine games
versus college teams and went 8-1. The only loss was to Western
Kentucky, which later lost to Vanderbilt at the Gaylord Entertainment
Center.
This
fall, the Harlem Globetrotters will play another nine-game
slate with games against five teams ranked in the preseason
top-25.
After taking on the Harlem Globetrotters, the Commodores
will wrap up the exhibition season against Upstate New York
Friday, Nov. 15 at Memorial Gym. Vanderbilt begins the regular
season Nov. 22 against Southeastern Louisiana.
