Vanderbilt, Snedeker 10th at SEC Men's Golf Championship 4/27/03

The Vanderbilt men's golf team finished in 10th place, while Brandt Snedeker finished tied for 10th at the 2003 SEC Men's Golf Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga. The 54-hole event was played at the par-70, 6,885-yard Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club.

As a team, the Commodores were unable to move up in during the final day. After recording rounds of 302 and 310 in the first two rounds, Vanderbilt carded a 10-over-par score of 290 Sunday to remain in 10th place. The 290 was the fifth-best final round.

Individually, senior Brandt Snedeker posted his second-best finish at the SEC Championship with a tie for 10th place. He recorded his best round of the weekend Sunday, an even-par 70, to post a tournament score of seven-over-par 217. Snedeker has now led the Commodores in 10 of the 11 tournaments this season.

Following Snedeker was a pair of ties. Sophomores Mark Donnell and Lance Goodson both finished tied for 40th place with 17-over-par scores of 227. Donnell shot rounds of 70-82-75 to get to his total, while Goodson posted rounds of 80-74-73.

Rounding out the Vanderbilt squad were Craig Dunlap and Ken Lewis, who both finished the Championship tied for 52nd place with 24-over-par scores of 234. Dunlap shot rounds of 80-82-72 for his total, while Lewis carded rounds of 78-81-75.

Vanderbilt's next action will be May 8-9 at the Atlanta Intercollegiate in McDonough, Ga.

Day 2

Vanderbilt 10th After Second Round at SEC Men's Golf Championship 4/26/03

The Vanderbilt men's golf team slipped two spots to 10th place with a score of 612 after the second round at the 2003 SEC Men's Golf Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga. The 54-hole event, which is being played at the par-70, 6,550-yard Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club, concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes.

As a team, the Commodores head into the final day 10th in the 12-team field with a 52-over-par score of 612. After shooting a 22-over-par 302 in the first round, Vanderbilt recorded a 30-over-par in Saturday's second round.

Individually, senior Brandt Snedeker once again took his usual spot atop the Commodore squad. He shot a three-over-par 73 in the second round for a total score of seven-over-par 147. With that score, Snedeker is tied for 17th place and is just six strokes out of third place and 11 shots out of the lead.

Sophomore Mark Donnell, who was the team leader after the first round, shot a 12-over-par 82 Saturday after carding an even-par 70 in the first round. With a total score of 12-over-par 152, Donnell is tied for 36th place.

Close behind Donnell is sophomore Lance Goodson, who followed up his first-round 80 with a four-over-par 74. Goodson's 14-over-par 154 leaves him tied for 43rd place heading into the final 18 holes.

Rounding out the Vanderbilt five are junior Ken Lewis and senior Craig Dunlap. Lewis has posted rounds of 78 and 81 to finish the second round tied for 54th place with a 19-over-par score of 159. Dunlap has recorded rounds of 80 and 82 to enter the final round tied for 57th place with a 22-over-par score of 162.

Vanderbilt Eighth After First Round at SEC Men's Golf Championship 4/25/03

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Vanderbilt men's golf team is in eighth place with a score of 302 after the first round at the 2003 SEC Men's Golf Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga. The 54-hole event, which is being played at the par-70, 6,550-yard Seaside Course at the Sea Island Golf Club, continues Saturday with the second round and then concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes.

As a team, the Commodores finished the first day eighth in the 12-team field after shooting a 22-over-par 302. Despite being in eighth place, Vanderbilt is just four shots out of six place and only nine strokes from climbing into the top five.

Individually, sophomore Mark Donnell is the Vanderbilt leader after shooting an even-par 70 to finish tied for fifth place. For Donnell, this is his best round since posting a one-under-par 71 in the first round of the Oregon Duck Invitational March 24.

Next for Vanderbilt was senior Brandt Snedeker, who shot a four-over-par 74 to finish the first 18 holes tied for 19th place. Junior Ken Lewis, who entered the SEC Championship as one of the hottest Commodore golfers, recorded an eight-over-par 78 in the first round to finish tied for 39th. Rounding out the Commodore squad were senior Craig Dunlap and sophomore Lance Goodson. Both Dunlap and Goodson finished the first 18 holes tied for 48th place after carding scores of 10-over-par 80.
