Prospects
Enters preseason as the starter at right guard off impressive
spring practice. A hard-working aggressive blocker who goes
until the whistle sounds, Pettit gained valuable experience
late in the 2001 season and provides the Commodores with versatility
and knowledge of all OL responsibilities.
2001
Played in five games, including a start at right guard in
season finale at Ole Miss... Also saw action at tackle, and
worked in preseason at center.
2000
Played sparingly, with most action coming against Duke.
1999
Redshirted.
High School
Named to Jackson Clarion Ledger first team All-State, two-time
All-District... Played on several top baseball teams, including
one that was fifth in the Sandy Koufax World Series... President
of junior class, President of Beta Club and Fellowship of
Christian Students... Member of National Honor Society and
Who’s Who of American High School Students.
Academics
Pettit is on schedule to graduate this May with a degree in
Human and Organizational Development (leadership track). Two-time
All-SEC Academic Honor Roll selection.
Personal
Son of Jerry and Teresa Pettit... Born April 30, 1981... Dad
is a medical industry consultant, mom is a former Miss Mississippi
USA... Grew up going to games of parents’ alma mater, Ole
Miss... First career start came against Rebels... Oldest of
four siblings… Younger brother, Blake, is freshman at Mississippi
State on football scholarship... Rooms with WR M.J. Garrett
and TE Tom Simone... Completed radio promotion internship
this summer at SONY Music... Enjoys country music, deer hunting,
bass fishing and billiards... Has volunteered at Nashville
area homeless shelter.
