In his first start of the season Faulkner surrendered only three hits and no earned runs in 6.0 IP against West Virginia (2/17). The opposition is batting .176 (3-for-17) against Faulkner with runners on base.

Sowers Debut Worthy Of SEC Pitcher of the Week Honors Vanderbilt freshman left-hander Jeremy Sowers was named Southeastern ConferencePitcher of the Week for February 25 announced Monday by the league office.

Notes From Week 2
• Third baseman John Prothro hit two home runs and went 3-for-4 to lead Vanderbilt to a 6- 3 win over Lipscomb (2/20). The win kept the Commodores undefeated in the early season at 4-0.
• Five Vanderbilt pitchers saw action against the Bisons. Right-hander Chris Maultsby started the game and threw three innings, allowing two hits, an earned run and a walk to go along with a strikeout. Left-hander John Scott (1-0) pitched two innings and earned the win. He surrendered only one hit while striking out one. Right-hander Dean Bennett came on in the ninth and picked up his second save of the season, allowing one hit while striking out one.
• Vanderbilt lost its first game of the 2002 season 2/22 at Louisville. The Commodores managed six hits.
• Sean Luellwitz hit his first home run of the season, a three-run long ball to left field, but Louisville scored nine times in the seventh inning to win 12-3 (2/23).
• Worth Scott hit his first career grand slam and Jeremy Sowers struck out 10 Cardinals in 7.0 IP as Vanderbilt avoided the series sweep with a 6-5 win at Louisville (2/24). Dean Bennett picked up his third save of the year.
• Karl Nonemaker’s three hits in the Louisville series moved him into sixth place on Vanderbilt’s career hits list with 225.
