As a Freshman at Duke: Posted a 2-0 mark with a 2.02 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 21 innings during the 2001 fall season. Did not play for the Blue Devils in spring 2002. Enrolled at Vanderbilt in the fall 2002 and walked-on to the Commodore football team where he served as a defensive back on the scout team.

High School: Named first team All-Mission League as a senior at Loyola High School where he went 6-3 on the mound with a 3.02 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 56 innings pitched. Hit .280 at the plate with a home run, four doubles and 11 RBI. Posted a 5-4 mark, 4.11 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 32 innings as a sophomore. Hit .308 with two home runs, eight doubles and 21 RBI.
