POSTDOC TALK is a bi-annual publication seeking to highlight events and resources of relevance to the postdoctoral community and to share the accomplishments of VU and VUMC postdoctoral fellows and trainees with the broader Vanderbilt community.

 The Editorial Staff invites contributions towards the following topics:

  • An article
  • News of first-authored publication
  • Awards or honors in the past 6 months
  • Details of internships or volunteering in the past 6 - 8 months
  • Review/summary of a recently read fiction or non-fiction book
  • Comic strip of any aspect of life as a postdoc
  • Tips, ideas or topic ideas you would like to see in the newsletter

newsletter vol1 issue We are excited to present the first issue of Postdoc Talk, the Vanderbilt University Postdoctoral Association newsletter, for the 2017-18 academic year. 

This issue features a diverse array of articles, including highlights of programming from the 2017 VPA and SR Symposium held in April; pictures from National Postdoc Appreciation Week activities held at Vanderbilt in September; reviews and advice from two books focused on scientific communication; an opinion piece on veganism, along with recipes; and more!

In this issue, we highlight events from the recent 10th Annual Postdoctoral Association and Shared Resources Symposium. The career section features interviews with Dr. Jonathan Mosley (junior faculty at VU) and Dr. Lindsey Morris (VUMC alumna), along with some tips and suggestions from Dr. Ashley Brady (BRET office of Career Development) on effective informational interviewing. The Congratulations section highlights recent accomplishments by two VU postdoctoral fellows. Finally, we bring to spotlight the research done by Dr. Elwood Mullins, a postdoc in the Eichman lab, recently published in the journal Nature.
