Overview
Soren is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Interdisciplinary Materials
Science program, advised by Dr. Sharon Weiss and co-advised by Dr. Paul
Laibinis. Her research focuses on surface modifications to porous silicon (PSi)
for optical biosensing applications. Soren is developing passivation layers,
anti-fouling polymers, and biofunctionalization strategies to mitigate noise
from non-target molecules present in complex biological media (e.g. blood,
saliva).
Outside of research, Soren has enjoyed sharing her passion for science and
engineering through educational outreach programs since beginning her
undergraduate studies. Now, as a VINSE NanoGuide, she looks forward to
inspiring students to pursue their interests and explore the vast possibilities
that nanoscience offers.
