The Vanderbilt Institute of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, represented by Sarah Ross, has received the Community Partnership Excellence Award from Vanderbilt Compliance Services in recognition of its longstanding commitment to collaboration, education, and responsible community engagement.
The award honors programs that exemplify meaningful partnership in higher education. In its official release, Vanderbilt Compliance Services praised VINSE for opening its doors to schools and community partners while maintaining strong standards for safety, compliance, and program quality. The release noted that VINSE’s thoughtful coordination, clear communication, and dedication to shared responsibility make it a model for how institutions and community organizations can work together to expand access while upholding excellence.
VINSE was selected for its sustained outreach efforts and strong connections with schools and educators across Tennessee. The institute established its K-12 outreach program in 2011 to expand access to hands-on science education. Signature initiatives include the High School Field Trip Program, the Vanderbilt Summer Science Academy in Nanoscience, and the Middle School Rural Teacher Training Program.
Together, these efforts have impacted 53,350 students in more than 30 Tennessee counties, bringing nanoscale science and engineering experiences to classrooms and campuses statewide.
This recognition highlights VINSE’s mission to advance scientific discovery while expanding access to education through strong and responsible community partnerships.
