Jason Valentine part of research team to receive a $1.2 million NSF grant to develop smart microscope system

Dr. Jason Valentine, VINSE Deputy Director, will play a key role in a research initiative recently awarded $1.2 million in funding by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The project “Intelligent Cyber Microscopy System for Long-term Microscope Imaging” seeks to develop an Intelligent Cyber Microscopy System (iCMS) by introducing a cutting-edge, AI-powered cyber-physical system to revolutionize long-term live cell imaging.

The NSF-funded project brings together Dr. Valentine’s research group with Dr. Yuankai Huo, assistant professor of computer science and electrical and computer engineering alongside Dr. Bryan Millis, research associate professor of biomedical engineering and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative imaging scientist.

Earlier this year, Drs. Huo and Valentine were jointly recognized with the prestigious Charles E. Ives Award for excellence in collaborative imaging research — a testament to their innovative work at the intersection of AI and biomedical imaging.
