VINSE Hosts Technical Workshop on Thin Film Deposition

On Tuesday, May 20, members of the VINSE community participated in a full-day, in-person workshop on thin film deposition, sponsored by VINSE Industry Affiliates Program member Angstrom Engineering Inc. The session was led by Dr. Mike Miller, Director of Business Development at Angstrom Engineering.

Dr. Miller covered the fundamental operating principles of various physical vapor deposition methods and discussed their respective advantages and limitations. The session also addressed methods for characterizing thin films, focusing on properties such as adhesion, hardness, material purity, density, stress, and optical performance. These characterizations help inform deposition process adjustments needed to achieve the desired film quality for various applications.

“This workshop is a great example of the value our Industry Affiliates Program provides to the VINSE community,” said Dr. Sharon Weiss, Director of VINSE. Workshops like this not only share technical insights, but they also strengthen partnerships and facilitate research and innovation.”
