Program Overview
On this SIT program, explore the bustling city and engage with the local communities as you focus on issues of development, nation building, and reconciliation of South Africa’s social and political spheres. You will learn about the historical background of South Africa’s apartheid system, the dismantling of that system, and the emerging visions for South Africa, politically and socially. Courses are taught in English, and students will study and learn to speak the native language of isiZulu. In addition to your coursework, you have the option to complete an internship, an independent study project, or a journalism project that includes a features a full length article in collaboration with Cape Town journalist. Students are required to stay in three types of homestays: two urban homestays in Cato Manor, and Newlands, and a rural homestay in Amacambini.
