Signature Programs

The Student Center for Social Justice and Identity (SCSJI) would like to invite you to the second annual Empowerment Summit on Saturday, January 28th from 10:00am-5:00pm in the Student Life Center (SLC). Each year, this one-day conference of critical dialogue will be a collaborative effort between SCSJI, and a student organization interested in a social justice topic.

This year, SCSJI has had the honor to partner with the Asian American Student Association (AASA) and the South Asian Cultural Exchange (SACE) to promote a summit that focuses on the Tale of Two Continents: The Immigrant Experience and a Colonial Legacy, highlighting experiences within the Asian and Asian American Diaspora. The summit will feature nationally recognized keynote speaker(s) and 2-3 rounds of interactive sessions educating attendees on a variety of topics such as mental health and wellbeing, leadership and personal development, and intersectional identities. Stay tuned for more information regarding the Empowerment Summit’s main speaker!

Tickets can be purchased online (credit or debit) through TicketWeb or in person at the Sarratt Box Office (via Commodore Cash) for $5.00. Experience Vanderbilt Funds CAN be used towards this event. Those who purchase tickets will be sent a registration form to complete at a later date. Registration will close on Friday, January 13th- Attendance capacity is maxed at 200 people, so please register early.

This signature program provides an intentional education and conversation surrounding intersecting identities that cultivate critical conversations around how students can successfully navigate professional/personal/real-world systemic barriers.

This signature program aims to develop a space for students to discuss current global events related to a variety of identities. These programs use popular culture to drive curiosity and education in the areas of social justice.

This signature program centers culturally relevant and grounding wellness techniques and practices. These programs will also have art-based and mindfulness pedagogy to address and support an array of multicultural, international and underrepresented populations while fostering an environment of reprieve.
