About the Program

The Middle Tennessee Research Administration and Innovation Network (M-TRAIN) is a community of professionals aiming to enhance the research enterprise of Middle Tennessee by building research administration capacity and expanding partnerships across the region. The community is primarily composed of professionals based in the research administrations of institutes of higher education in Middle Tennessee but welcomes anyone interested in elevating the research enterprise of the region.

Middle Tennessee is a fast-growing region that is home to world-class R1 institutions (doctoral granting institutions with very high research activity) and several, diverse emerging research institutions. The vision of M-TRAIN is to connect the administrations of research performers to enhance collaboration, partnership, and regional growth.

M-TRAIN began as a partnership between the research offices of Vanderbilt University, Tennessee State University, and Fisk University, with funding from the National Science Foundation’s Growing Research Access for Nationally Transformative Economic Development (GRANTED; Award #2324459). M-TRAIN has hosted the region’s research enterprise professionals in workshops to discuss how to build regional research development, administration, and translation capabilities, while prioritizing the growth of emerging research institutions.
