Project Safe Center for Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response

Peer Educator Role Description

The Project Safe Center Peer Educators are undergraduate and graduate students that provide sexual misconduct prevention and sexual health and wellness education to their peers through interactive programs and other outreach initiatives. Peer educators should also role model healthy relationship practices and act as liaisons to connect their peers to sexual misconduct reporting and support resources and health and wellness resources on campus and in the community.  Project Safe Peer Educators will be supervised by the Assistant Director of Prevention within the Project Safe Center.

Ultimately, Peer Education is a job that builds accountability and responsibility in students who are able to channel their passion and activism for sexual misconduct prevention and culture change into making a difference on our college campus through awareness-raising and prevention education efforts. Peer Educators are held to the same expectations as other campus student employees and students may benefit from their participation in the program. This opportunity should enable students to learn and develop skills that will help them personally and professionally.

There are 4 distinct priority prevention topics that the Project Safe peer education teams will focus their efforts on:

  • Effective Consent
  • Bystander Intervention
  • Building and Maintaining Healthy Relationships
  • Addressing Rape Culture

Time Commitment

  • The minimum time commitment to be involved with the group is 4 to 6 hours per week which includes a weekly meeting, office hour(s), and programming commitments.
  • Hours typically fall within the weekday, but some weekend and evening hours are not unusual.
  • This is a semester-long position that follows the academic calendar. Students are eligible to apply/re-apply each semester.
