Vineeta Sharma, Ph.D.

Dr. Vineeta Sharma, an alumni of the Vanderbilt postdoctoral community, currently serves as a Staff Scientist in the Morphology Core Facility at Meharry Medical College, where she advances mechanistic understanding of disease through innovative cell-based models and state-of-the-art imaging technologies. Her work leverages 3D culture systems, laser-scanning confocal microscopy, and super-resolution approaches, including TIRF and STORM, to support multidisciplinary research in cancer molecular biology, neuroscience, and infectious disease. In this role, she develops rigorous experimental workflows that strengthen data quality, reproducibility, and translational relevance across institutionally supported research programs.

Since completing her postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt, Dr Sharma has emerged as a research leader in molecular biology and advanced imaging, contributing to peer-reviewed publications, competitive grant applications, and nationally funded collaborations. She is deeply committed to mentoring postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical trainees, helping to cultivate the next generation of biomedical scientists. The impact of her work was recently highlighted by the selection of her microscopy images for the cover of Aging Cell (2025), and she was awarded the title of outstanding staff scientist (2025). Collectively, her efforts aim to accelerate scientific discovery, deepen understanding of chronic disease mechanisms, and support translational research that improves public health and patient care.”

Dr. Sharma’s Career Advice:

“For researchers aiming for academic careers, advanced microscopy is most powerful when it extends beyond technique. Grounding imaging expertise in quantitative analysis, functional assay development, and translational modeling transforms microscopy into a discovery platform—enhancing competitiveness for faculty positions, core leadership, and collaborative funding while supporting long-term research independence.”
