Prasobh Padmanabhan, Ph.D.

Dr. Prasobh Padmanabhan, an alum of the Vanderbilt postdoctoral community, currently serves as the Engineering Manager at Qmet Tech, a key contributor to India’s National Quantum Mission. In this role, he oversees a multidisciplinary R&D team advancing the development of the Quantum Diamond Microscope and Quantum Magnetometer.

“By leveraging Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers in diamond, we are engineering the high-sensitivity magnetic imaging systems that push the boundaries of magnetic field mapping, NDT, and semiconductor failure analysis,” he explains, highlighting the transformative potential of these quantum-enabled tools. Prasobh’s technical journey spans quantum diamond microscopy, hyperspectral satellite imaging, quantitative phase imaging, and advanced computational imaging pipelines that integrate physics, AI/ML, and data analytics.

Since completing his postdoctoral training, Prasobh has charted a successful path from academic research to strategic technical leadership. Along the way, he has earned several accolades, including the Managing Director’s Best Impact of the Quarter Award (Tishyas Medical Device Development Solutions Pvt. Ltd) in 2024, honoring his contributions to accelerating technology development.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Prasobh is intentional about maintaining balance in his life. He practices yoga and meditation to support both his physical and mental well‑being, helping him stay grounded and balanced amid the demands of technical leadership.

Dr. Padmanabhan’s Career Advice:

“For those transitioning from academia to industry … identify and pivot toward highly marketable skills. While your niche may be specific—for instance, an “imaging specialist”— the job market for such roles can be narrow. However, reframing and upskilling as an “image processing specialist” opens doors across far more diverse sectors. Adapt your deep technical expertise into a broader functional language that industry recruiters value.”
