Dr. Norris recently completed work done at the University of Florida during her Ph.D. that led to a first-author publication in Cell Reports! She investigated the effects of intramuscular fat, a pathological feature characteristic in diabetes, muscular dystrophies and aging, on muscle regeneration. It was found that intramuscular fat acts as a barrier for nascent fibers and causes a loss in muscle function. This work sheds light on the relationship between skeletal muscle and intramuscular fat, highlighting the importance of preventing intramuscular fat formation to ensure proper muscle regeneration.
Congratulations on your findings and work, Dr. Norris!
