From Vanderbilt Research to Stanford Ph.D.

Immersion Vanderbilt Faculty Adviser: Dr. Alexander Bick, VUMC

Pathway: Research

Ketan Hoey (Molecular & Cellular Biology, Class of '26) investigated a genetic blood disorder and contributed to research aimed at understanding its effects on human health in Dr. Alexander Bick's lab at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Over several years, he developed both the technical skills required for biological research and the ability to communicate scientific findings effectively.

Supported by the SyBBURE Program and a Crescere Aude Stipend, Ketan expanded his research experience at Stanford University, where he continued advancing his project. His work culminated in an oral presentation at the Southeastern Medical Scientist Symposium (SEMSS) in 2025, showcasing the findings and skills he developed throughout his undergraduate career. The experience solidified his goal of becoming a scientist and prepared him for his next step: pursuing a Ph.D. at Stanford University.

My Immersion project is directly related to my future plans, as I aspire to be a scientist.
