Where First-Generation Students Start Strong—Together

Available to participants for free, First View is a yearlong transition program that helps first-generation students start Vanderbilt feeling confident, connected, and prepared.

Starting college is a milestone many students look forward to, but for first-generation students, it can also feel like stepping into the unknown. What makes the journey brighter is finding a community that understands and walks alongside you. That’s where First View comes in.

My experience as a first generation college student informed my decision to create First View. There is a hidden curriculum to navigating college. My goal is to try and uncover those hidden expectations and encourage students to leverage all that’s available to them.

Our Program

Beginning with a summer experience and continuing through the academic year, students build the relationships, skills, and sense of belonging they need to thrive at Vanderbilt and beyond. Through mentoring, self-reflection, goal-setting, networking, and interactive workshops, you’ll explore career paths, strengthen your professional toolkit, and gain knowledge, connections, and confidence to shape your future.
