What is your hometown? South Korea

What is your educational background? Majored in Materials Engineering from Kyungpook National University

What is your working experience, if any? I worked as a researcher in LG Display to develop OLED displays.

Why data science? While I was working for the company, there were many times I conducted an experiment and analyzed data to improve oxide semiconductors in OLED displays. With some data science skills, I was able to get more precise results for my project and it made me have huge interests in data science. Also, I like the point that data science can be applied to any area such as science, healthcare, and business. It allows me to accumulate diverse knowledge from different fields, and it means there will be no limit to my challenge.

Why did you choose Vanderbilt? The biggest reason I chose Vanderbilt University is that I like the curriculum. They are not weighted towards only either theory or application. They have a good balance of concept and practical use so that it trains students to have an ability to apply data science knowledge anywhere with a deep understanding of it. Moreover, there are a lot of research opportunities at Vanderbilt University.

What are your hobbies / what do you enjoy doing outside of work and academics? I like outdoor activities such as scuba diving and hiking. It relieves my stress. I also like baking and cooking.
