Vanderbilt University faculty and students join in the retracing the Freedom Rides of 1961, which were part of the movement that led to the end of segregation in the South. The trip was hosted by Vanderbilt’s Office of Active Citizenship and Service and The Commons, Rev. C.T. Vivian speaks during the morning panel discussion on Jan. 28.

Civil rights leaders Bernard Lafayette, the Rev. James Lawson, Congressman John Lewis, Diane Nash, John Seigenthaler, the Rev. C.T. Vivian and Jim Zwerg discuss today’s civil rights challenges and encourage students to be active citizens on Sunday, Jan. 28 as part of the 2007 Freedom Ride.
