Towers I and II
Meet the Residential Staff | Photos
Carmichael Towers East is a
fourteen-floor, air-conditioned residence hall complex that opened in 1966. Towers
East is comprised of two separate high-rise buildings, Tower I and Tower II. The
lower two floors of each tower contain study areas, lounges, recreation rooms,
a 24-hour information desk and meeting rooms. The complex has a laundry facility
and a Varsity Market conveniently located on the first floor.
Residents live on floors 3-14 in Towers I and II. The
residential floors are built in the shape of a square. On the majority of the
floors (Tower I floors 3-6 and Tower II floors 3-14), students’ rooms are arranged
around three sides of the square, with a study room on the fourth side. Upperclass
men and women live in the complex on separate floors. There are 18 single rooms
and 4 doubles on each floor, with common bath facilities located at the center
of the hall. Carmichael Towers East houses 416 upperclass men and women in single
and double rooms. Every third floor has a resident adviser. All floors have gender
designations.
The top eight floors of Tower I (floors 7-14) are coed
residential floors. Each floor consists of four suites with each suite housing
six residents of the same gender. These accommodations include two single bedrooms
(rooms B&D), two doubles (rooms A&E), a private bathroom, a large storage closet
with full-size refrigerator and a common lounge area. In the common area, there
is one loveseat, a lounge chair, one coffee table, a lamp table and table lamp.
The doubles have bunkable beds. Carmichael Towers East houses 192 upperclass men
and women in suites. .
For the fall of 1997, complete kitchen facilities
(refrigerator, sink, cabinets, oven, stove, and dining table and chairs) were
added to all Tower I suites.
The Carmichael Towers are named for Oliver Cromwell Carmichael, who was Vanderbilt's third
Chancellor.
