InterResidence Hall Association

Interhall functions as a governing body for all residence halls and represents the student body to the Office of Housing and Residential Education. With over 200 elected and appointed positions, Interhall provides students with numerous opportunities for leadership experience. Interhall organizes workshops and retreats to help student members acquire leadership skills. Each resident pays a $3 fee per semester to cover Interhall activities.

Interhall:

  • develops, plans, and executes programs and activities related to the interests of the residents.
  • receives ideas and initiates programs and activities to enhance residence hall living.
  • decides how residence hall officers are elected.
  • provides for the implementation and administration of residence hall self-determination through dormitory autonomy.
  • advises the Office of Housing and Residential Education regarding policy development and implementation, facilities, improvement, and other student preferences.

The Residence Hall Judicial Boards hear cases involving misconduct in the residence halls as they relate to violations of dormitory autonomy regulations and other residential concerns. Convened by an Interhall Judicial Vice-President, the Judicial Board consists of elected judicial officers from the residence halls. Assistant Directors serve as advisers to the Judicial Boards. Residents who fail to abide by established rules may be referred to the Undergraduate Student Conduct Council.

Noise Abatement Program

The Noise Abatement Program is a joint project of Interhall and the Office of Housing and Residential Education. It encourages residents to help maintain an atmosphere conducive to study and sleep. Through educational programming and the use of posters, flyers, and light cues, students are reminded of the need for quiet on residence hall floors.

(It should be noted that large stereo systems and amplified musical instruments that produce loud music are not welcome in residence halls. Students who choose to bring stereos should bring modest systems, rather than "earthshakers," and must bring headphones.)
