Vanderbilt University to host PARK(ing) Day 2021 Sept. 17
Have you ever imagined what campus would be like with more green space? Vanderbilt University is hosting PARK(ing) Day, an annual global event competition where urban areas like parking lots are transformed into green spaces to promote sustainable designs, on Friday, Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will both celebrate the past evolution of campus in alignment with FutureVU and give the VU community a peek into the future.
The university’s park will be located at the University Club parking lot, located off Garland Avenue. Parking and vehicular traffic in the area will not be impacted.
The park will feature a booth from Campus Dining, the “Soil Your Undies” challenge and other faculty and student groups. Tours of the Community Garden will also be given. Attendees can lounge in the transformed green space on hammocks or patio sets while enjoying some treats from Las Paletas.
Travel through recent campus history with interactive activities that highlight university projects such as the West End Neighborhood, Peabody and sustainability initiatives. Attendees will also have the opportunity share their thoughts about what they love most about campus and where they think it can be improved.
This is Vanderbilt’s fourth year participating in this event competition. Judges from the Civic Design Center, which manages the event in Nashville, will visit all the registered parks and will present a variety of awards at the Golden Cone Awards event later this month.
