Mission
Vanderbilt University’s K.C. Potter Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Life (LGBTQI+ Life) is a student-first space that builds a community culture of personal growth, authenticity, radical joy, and change.
LGBTQI+ Life serves all members of the Vanderbilt community — students, faculty, staff, and alumni — by creating educational, cultural, and social opportunities. The office also supports and advises LGBTQI+ related campus groups and activities, as well as members of the Nashville community and beyond.
What We Do
We focus on being an educational hub that offers student support and community building.
Programming
Events and initiatives that promote professional opportunities, wellness support, and community building for LGBTQI+ communities, including our signature events such as National Coming Out Day, Trans Day of Remembrance and Resilience, and Lavender Graduation Ceremony.
Affinity Groups
Affinity groups are an affirming space led by peers and staff for Vanderbilt students to come together around a shared identity and/or interest they hold. Find the full list and meeting details of our Affinity groups at our Affinity Groups page.
Training and Workshops
The center offers P.R.I.D.E. training and various workshops for all members of Vanderbilt and the larger Nashville community. To request an event or for more information, please visit our Training and Workshops page.
History
About Our Namesake: K.C. Potter

K.C. Potter, Vanderbilt’s long-serving dean of residential and judicial affairs, retired after 36 years at the University as a student and administrator. Potter cared deeply for all Vanderbilt students, particularly marginalized students, including Vanderbilt’s LGBTQ2S+ population. Potter was the first administrator to reach out to them, give them a voice, and help them stake their claim on campus life. For almost 10 years, Potter let Vanderbilt’s LGBTQ2S+ undergraduate student group, Lambda, meet at his home on West Side Row.
