The Sophomore Year Experience
Residential Colleges coordinates Sophomore Year Experience (SYE) programming to support students’ successful transition from the first year of college. This collection of programming is designed to provide second-year undergraduate students with multiple opportunities to connect with faculty, staff and peers as they learn about important campus and community resources. SYE annual events include the Sophomore RECHARGE, Sophomore Study Snacks, and the Sophomore SMASH & SCREAM. Sophomores also receive priority invitations to Explore Nashville excursions.

Charged Up for Sophomore Year! series
In addition to individual events and programs, sophomores are encouraged to participate in the Charged Up for Sophomore Year! series during the fall semester. This series is designed to help students stay ENERGIZED and PLUGGED IN to campus resources that are essential to their second year at Vanderbilt….while avoiding a sophomore slump. To win great prizes and experiences, second-year students visit participating campus resource offices and attend eligible campus events. For Fall, 2025, the series runs from August 20 to November 21. Prizes are awarded according to different levels of participation:
Tier 1
Students who complete an appointment/meeting with 1 campus resources office and attend 1 eligible event will receive a VU swag item!
Tier 2
Students who complete an appointment/meeting with 2 campus resources offices and attend 2 eligible events will receive a VU swag item and an invitation to a special Sophomore Sunday Dinner that will be catered by a favorite off-campus restaurant!
Tier 3
Students who complete an appointment/meeting with all 3 campus resources offices and attend 3 eligible events will receive a VU swag item and an invitation to a special Sophomore Sunday Dinner that will be catered by a favorite off-campus restaurant and an invitation to a Sophomore Spa Day featuring an oxygen bar, massage therapists, skincare products, and more!
