Proposals and Nominations

Submit a presentation proposal

RCS seeks timely, thought-provoking proposals for sessions aligned with the theme of Radical Collaboration and the four focus areas of the 2026 Symposium. Proposals should follow one of three formats: a case study of a specific program, initiative or process; a panel presentation offering multiple perspectives on the same topic; or a roundtable discussion inviting participants to co-construct the outcome of the discussion. Most available sessions will be 50 minutes in length.

Submissions require: Profile information for up to three presenters, session type, focus area, intended audience(s), title (no more than 15 words), tags, an abstract of no more than 250 words that will be shared with attendees, a list of intended outcomes, and a detailed outline.

Proposals must be submitted by May 15, 2026, for consideration. All submitters will be contacted by July 15 with an outcome. Please note:

  • There will be no compensation for traveling to, or speaking at, the symposium.
  • Paid symposium attendance is required of all session speakers.
  • If you are proposing a panel, all program determinations will be communicated directly to the primary submitter. The submitter is responsible for communicating all status updates to panelists and for collecting and submitting complete information as requested by symposium organizers by the deadlines specified at the time of acceptance.
  • RCS reserves the right to edit or make changes to proposed session titles, descriptions, modes of presentation, panels and moderators. Changes will be communicated with submitters.
  • Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
  • Questions may be directed to residentialcolleges@vanderbilt.edu.

Participate in the Residential Colleges Exhibition Hall

As part of the 2026 Symposium, the featured Residential Colleges Exhibition Hall will offer institutions an opportunity to showcase their model(s), programs and initiatives. Participating institutions will be provided with tabling space in the main symposium meeting space where they can setup display boards and offer materials on their offerings. There will be a dedicated time on Thursday, October 22 for mingling through the hall, though institutions are welcome to setup their display as early as Wednesday and leave them up for the duration of the symposium for attendees to peruse as they are available. All institutions with at least one affiliated member attending RCS are eligible to be included in the showcase.

Interested institutions should submit one form by September 1, 2026.

SUBMIT AN AWARD NOMINATION

The Residential College Society offers annual awards sponsored by VMDO Architects based on submissions. Nominations of any person, entity or program associated with residential colleges are welcome. The Society leadership team will make determinations about which awards to grant based on the nominations submitted in a given year.

Awards are intentionally broad to capture the breadth of individuals, programs and entities represented across institutions and residential college systems. Consider nominating:

  • A faculty member whose research explores the role of residential colleges on student outcomes
  • An exceptional staff member who contributed uniquely to a residential college system
  • A residential college system that exemplifies the mission of integrating academics into students’ lives
  • A specific program or initiative, housed within a residential college, that had a major impact at your institution
  • An exceptional campus or external partner who facilitated your institution’s commitment to fostering residential education

In the nomination, provide a detailed rationale for why the nominee is deserving of an award. Describe the scope, significance and impact of their contributions or achievements. Consider highlighting innovation, collaboration, sustainability, leadership, research and/or outcomes as appropriate. Be specific and provide examples or evidence to support the nomination. The suggested length of nominations is 250-400 words.

Note that your nomination may be shared aloud and/or in writing at the awards celebration at the 2026 Symposium and/or online on RCS-affiliated sites.

Nominations are due by May 15, 2026.
