Mission

The Center for Spiritual and Religious Life (CSRL) is committed to providing care, guidance, and community for students navigating life’s questions of meaning, faith, and purpose. The center promotes interfaith literacy, supports various religious practices, facilitates spiritual formation, and cultivates space for reflection and ethical engagement. The center works with affiliate chaplains, student groups, and campus partners to foster a culture of belonging and holistic student development.

What We Do

We build a community of various religious and spiritual perspectives, wisdom traditions, and worldviews for the belonging, support, care, and reflective engagement of the community as they take part in:

  • Vibrant campus communities that encompass, cultivate, and teach about diverse religious, spiritual, and secular perspectives, wisdom traditions, and worldviews;
  • Authentic interfaith engagement and non-sectarian reflection;
  • Careful discernment and compassionate, ethical action in the world as individuals and as a community;
  • Emotional and spiritual support offered through pastoral care and community gathering.

Benton Chapel

Benton Chapel is the largest and main chapel for Vanderbilt University. Although decorated in a Christian theme, no single denomination is prevalent, making the chapel available to be used by different denominations and traditions throughout the week. Benton Chapel has become the ecumenical home for various ministries, classes, promotions, and special events in the lives of students, faculty, and staff at Vanderbilt.

All Faiths Chapel

The All Faiths Chapel is located below Benton Chapel. A room of hand-crafted stucco and soft light, the All Faith Chapel was designed to be a welcoming and serene sacred space regardless of an individual’s faith. A variety of religious and spiritual groups meet and pray in the All Faith Chapel during the week
