Vanderbilt University Chancellor Daniel Diermeier sets the stage for this year's Summit on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats, highlighting the most pressing issues surrounding modern conflict as well as framing the discussions that will occur over the course of the two-day Summit.

Session Chair Roya Talibova, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University, leads this panel discussing new and potential emerging threats facing Europe and Asia. Summit Session: Is Misinformation the New Malware?

Niloofar Razi Howe, Senior Operating Partner at Energy Impact Partners, chairs this panel discussion on the growing role and threat that misinformation plays in issues of modern conflict. Panelists include Samar S. Ali, Research Professor of Political Science and Law at Vanderbilt University, Chris Krebs, Founding Partner of the Krebs Stamos Group, and Lieutenant General Charlie "Tuna" Moore (Ret.), Distinguished Visiting Professor at Vanderbilt University; Former Deputy Commander, U.S. Cyber Command.


Summit Session: Future of Cybersecurity Education in Higher Education

Douglas Adams, Vice Dean of Engineering, Associate Provost, and Daniel F. Flowers Professor of Engineering at Vanderbilt University, leads a panel on the future of US Cyber Education and the growing threats and trends it must adapt to. An opening keynote address from Jen Easterly, Director of the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) pivoting into a one-on-one fireside chat with Session Chair Niloofar Razi Howe, Senior Operating Partner at Energy Impact Partners.


Summit Session: Taking on Tomorrow's Threats Today

A panel dedicated to the exploration of upcoming and relevant potential threats. Panelist perspectives include the principal cyber advisor to the Secretary of the Army, Michael Sulmeyer, Chief Information Officer to the U.S. State Department Kelly Fletcher, Chief of Staff for CISA Kiersten Todt, and VP of Technology for In-Q-Tel as well as academic expertise from Jules White, Associate Dean of Strategic Learning Programs in the School of Engineering at Vanderbilt.


Summit Keynote: Modern Conflict and the Future of Research

Director Gil Herrera, Director of Research, NSA, shares his perspective on future research requirements surrounding the issue of upcoming and emerging threats in his keynote address.


Summit Session: AI and the Future of National Security

An Interdisciplinary lunch panel that will hone its discussion on the role of AI in and the potential threats and opportunities it poses to national security. Perspectives will include industry and non-profit R&D leaders Thomas A. Campbell, Co-Director, LEAP Manufacturing; Founder & CEO, FutureGrasp, Eric Chewning, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Development, HII, and Charles Clancy, Senior Vice President, General Manager, MITRE Labs, Chief Futurist. The panel will be rounded out by the expertise of Sarah Shoker, a research scientist from OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT.
