fullbright
Fulbright awards send US citizens abroad for a year, fully-funded. The awards range from teaching English to attending Graduate School, conducting independent Research with a mentor in-country, or seeking professional development in the Creative & Performing Arts. Eligible applicants include rising seniors, grad students, or alumni. There are Fulbright Foreign student awards for those with other citizenships to come to the US for graduate study or research. The best times for students to connect with us about Fulbright awards are between February and June. The priority deadline for summer advising is May 15th. The campus deadline for Vanderbilt endorsement is around August 5th. PhD students are welcome to seek our support through August.
Fulbright PRISM is an affinity group for LGBTQIA people, mainly for those who are currently traveling on Fulbright awards.
Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institutes
The fully funded]PPIA Junior Summer Institute (JSI) Fellowship Program is a rigorous academic graduate level preparation program for undergraduate juniors committed to public service careers. The program was started to address the lack of diversity across the spectrum of professional public service, including government, nonprofits, public policy institutions, and international organizations. The purpose of the JSI Fellowship is to prepare students to obtain a Master’s or joint degree, in public policy, public administration, international affairs, or a related field.
International students are only eligible for the programs at Princeton University, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Washington.
The deadline tends to be the first week of November each year. Students who would like advising on PPIA should reach out to the Career Center in early October.
Ford Foundation Pre-doctoral Fellows
The Ford Fellowships seek to diversify those seeking academic careers. This competition year the program will award approximately 75 predoctoral fellowships. These fellowships provide three years of support for individuals engaged in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree.
Predoctoral fellowships will be awarded in a national competition administered by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine on behalf of the Ford Foundation. The awards will be made to individuals who, in the judgment of the review panels, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level in the U.S., show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation
The best demonstration of the The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation’s commitment to diversity and equity is who they name as Truman Scholars and learning about their aspirations in leadership most any field impacting public life. The Truman Scholarship is meant to celebrate and prepare the nation’s next generation of public service leaders. Scholars receive up to $30,000 for graduate school as well as access to extensive Scholar programming, priority admission and financial support from public service graduate programs, advising and mentoring from other public service leaders, and preferred hiring with the federal government.
Truman Priority Deadline is October 15th for juniors to be considered for Vanderbilt nomination.
