Sophie Esteves Varvella Vicente

Sophie Esteves Varvella Vicente (she/her/hers) is a recent graduate of Northeastern University with a B.A. in Political Science (Magna Cum Laude), and minors in International Affairs, Mindfulness Studies, and Religious Studies. She is pursuing a Master of Divinity at Vanderbilt University with a concentration in Spirituality and Activism. Her academic interests lie at the intersections of faith and contemporary liberation movements, and their ethical ramifications in modernity. As a 2024-2025 research fellow at the James Lawson Institute for the Study of Nonviolent Movements, she will utilize the case study of self-immolation to further investigate the implications of the non-violence/violence binary.
