The inaugural symposium of the Vanderbilt University Center for Sustainability, Energy and Climate (VSEC), held on August 13, 2025, brought together faculty, researchers, students, and external partners to explore interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability, climate resilience, and energy innovation. The event featured keynote remarks from Katherine Evans of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and opening remarks from Vanderbilt leadership, including Provost Cybele Raver, Dean of Engineering Krishnendu Roy, and VSEC Director Hussam Mahmoud. Throughout the day, participants engaged in panel discussions and parallel sessions addressing topics such as external partnerships for sustainable development, climate health in the Southeast, risk management and climate adaptation, climate mitigation and health equity, and advances in energy technologies. The symposium concluded with a networking reception and student poster session, highlighting emerging research and fostering collaboration across disciplines and institutions.
