Faculty data includes information about the professors, instructors, and other academic staff at Vanderbilt. This may include details such as personal information, employment information, academic credentials, teaching responsibilities, service and administrative roles, and professional development.

Faculty data is important for managing human resources, supporting academic programs, and tracking institutional performance metrics related to teaching, research, and service.

The Faculty Data Domain is divided into Subdomains providing information on a more granular level.

Data classification is a practice that helps us understand the value of our data and identify more sensitive data.  The more sensitive the data, the more cautious you must be about accessing and sharing it with others and the more protections it needs to safeguard it from mishandling or misuse.

Vanderbilt University has a Data Classification Policy that has categorized VU data into the 4 levels listed below. Data classification for transactional row level data are assigned at the Subdomain level.  However the same data may be classified differently dependent on the format of the data.

    Course Evaluation data refers to the information collected about an instructor's course, including information from student evaluations of teaching.

Catalog of academic program-related activity such as newly created, closed, and substantively changed academic programs. Catalog of non-credit offerings (e.g., boot camps) at Vanderbilt - starting in summer 2025.

This data includes details such as the faculty member's name, ids and emails across both institutions, appointment start and end dates, percentage of appointment at each institution, and other relevant appointment information. This data is used across both VUMC and VU School of Medicine to manage the appointments and affiliations of these faculty members who have dual roles.
