Cadet S5 - Hannah Weishaar

Cadet Weishaar is a Senior at Vanderbilt University studying Environmental Science. As the S-5, she is in charge of recruiting and acts as the liaison between the battalion and Vanderbilt University for coordinating external events.

Cadet S6 - Mia Dolan

Cadet Dolani s a Senior at Vanderbilt University, studying Neurosceince. She is in charge of running the battalion's social media platforms, maintaining alumni relations, and maintaining outreach through the use of the Newsletter and website.

Cadre and Staff

Professor of Military Science-Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Peck

LTC Daniel Peck commissioned through ROTC as an Active Duty Field Artillery Officer in 2005. He has served in various training and operational positions through his career, most recently as the Chief of Operations for Human Resources Command in Fort Knox. He has also served with the 82nd Airborne Division (Fort Bragg), the 1st Infantry Division (Fort Riley), Temple University Army ROTC (Philadelphia), 2nd Brigade Army ROTC (Fort Dix), 210th Field Artillery Brigade (Korea). He has deployed to Afghanistan twice, once with the 82nd Airborne and once with the 1st Infantry Division, and Iraq one time, with the 1st Infantry Division. He has spent a majority of his career supporting Infantry units as their Field Artillery liaison and as an Operations Officer.

From earning his Ranger tab and Airborne wings to advancing through the Field Artillery Basic and Captains Career Courses, the Command and General Staff College, and specialized programs like the Tactical Information Operations Course, he has balanced the grit of combat training with the intellectual rigor of leadership development. His time in the Foundational Instructor-Facilitator Course and the Common Faculty Development – Instructor Course also reflects another passion: teaching, mentoring, and shaping the next generation of Army leaders.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Business and Technology Management (Clarkson University), and a Master of Education in Adult and Organizational Development (Temple University).

LTC Peck is married to Dr. Sun H. Peck who is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, with appointments in the departments of Biochemistry and Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University, and the Nashville Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Assistant Professor of Military Science - LTC Christopher Figueroa

LTC Christopher Figueroa commissioned as a Military Police Officer from the United States Military Academy at West Point. His military education includes the Military Police Basic Officer Leader and Captains’ Career Courses, Command and General Staff College, Special Reaction Team-Phase I, and other functional training courses.

His previous assignments include: Platoon Leader 558th MP Company, Assistant S-3 728th MP Battalion, Logistics Officer 14th MP Brigade, and Company Commander 289th MP Company (The Old Guard). His deployments include: Platoon Leader 558th MP Company (OIF IX-X) and Afghan National Police Operations Officer for Regional Support Command-West (2011-2012).

Following his selection as a Foreign Area Officer, he attended the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center for the Modern Standard Arabic-Basic Course. He then completed his In- Region Training at the Office of Military Cooperation – Bahrain before attending and completing graduate school. Upon graduation, he served as the Security Cooperation Program Manager, followed by Chief of Security Cooperation in the Office of Security Cooperation - Mauritania. He then served as the Advisor Fundamentals OIC at the Combat Advisor Training Course, Military Advisor Training Academy. In September 2024 he began his duties as Assistant Professor of Military Science at Vanderbilt University.

His awards include the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), the Air Assault Badge, the Senior Army Instructor Badge, the Order of St. Maurice – Legionnaire, the Order of St. George – Bronze Medallion, and the Maneuver Center of Excellence Officer Instructor of the Quarter.

His civilian education includes an Associates of Arts in Arabic from the Defense Language Institute, a Bachelor of Science in Management from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Science in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Assistant Professor of Military Science - Captain Michael Parks

Captain Michael T. Parks is a native of Perryville, MO . He entered the Army in October 2003 as a n 11B Infantryman. He completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, GA and served as a rifleman in the Bastogne Brigade, Fort Campbell, KY. He also served as a Military Police Soldier from 2007-2009, and a CID Special Agent from 2009-2015. Captain Parks earned his commission through a direct appointment in 2015 as an Engineer Officer.

Captain Parks served in a breadth of assignments both as an enlisted Soldier and officer. While assigned to the 170th Military Police Company, Fort Lewis, WA he trained and mentored 450 Iraqi Policemen from the AnahIP District during his deployment to the Anbar Province from 2007-2008. As a CID Special Agent, he served in the US Army Protective Service s Battalion from 2009-2012 as a Protective Services Special Agent, Surveillance Detection Agent, Mission Special Agent in Charge, and Personal Security Officer to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 2012 CPT Parks left active-duty service and joined the US Army Reserve as a CID Special Agent. He served as Drug Suppression Team Chief in the 907th MP DET (CID), Jacksonville, FL and the 399th MP DET (CID), St. Louis, MO. In 2015 he was commission ed as an Engineer Officer in the USAR, and assigned as the Assistant S2 of the 367th EN BN, St. Joseph, MN. He served as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the 350th EN CO (MAC), Bell, CA. In 2019 CPT Parks was selected to join the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program and assigned as the Executive Officer of the 305th EN CO (CLR). Upon completion of the Captains Career Course in 2022, he served as the Engineer Plans Officer and Battalion S3 of the 458th EN BN, Johnstown, PA. In 2024 he was assigned to Vanderbilt University as the Assistant Professor of Military Science.

His military education includes the Warrior Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, CID Special Agent Course, Protective Services Training Course, Unit Movement Officer and Deployment Planning Course, USAR Training Management Course, Engineer Basic Officer Leader Course, Engineer Captains Career Course, Joint Engineer Operations Course, the USACE Construction Quality Management Course, the Common Faculty Development Instructor Course, and the Military History Instructor Course .

His civilian education includes a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, a master’s degree in theology from Providence College, and a master’s degree in Geological Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal ( 5 ), the Army Achievement Medal ( 6 ), the Army Good Conduct Medal (3), the Army Reserve Achievement Medal ( 2 ), the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon ( 2 ) , and the Oversees Service Ribbon.

He is married to DeAnna Parks , who has been recognized numerous times as an Outstanding Army Spouse for her self-less service and dedication to the Army, its Soldier s , and their families. Together they have four children : Daniella, Meghan, Natalie, and Justin.

Assistant Professor of Military Science - Captain Jade A. Cruz

Captain Jade A. Cruz began her military career in July 2012, she enlisted into the Army Reserve as a CBRN Specialist. She went to Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO in the summer of 2013. Cruz’s first unit was the 141st Quartermaster Company out of Tyler, TX.

In January 2014, Cruz enrolled into the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) and contracted into the ROTC early commissioning program. She graduated as salutatorian in December 2015 with an Associate of Science in Physical Science and commissioned into the Army Reserve’s Chemical Corps.

Cruz's first assignment as an officer was a Biological Integrated Detection System (BIDS) platoon leader for the 370th Chemical Company whose headquarters is in Fort Worth, TX and had two Oklahoma detachments in Norman and McAlester. Other positions she served in the 370th were detachment commander, dismounted reconnaissance platoon leader, and company executive officer. During this time, continued her education at Oklahoma State University and graduated in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a minor in Microbiology.

In January 2019, Cruz attended Chemical Basic Officer Leaders Course and graduated top 5 out of 42 in her class. Upon graduation, Cruz sought the opportunity to take command of 334th Chemical Company (BIDS) in Marysville, WA. She took command from February 2020-March 2022. Cruz promoted to Captain in September 2020.

From March 2022-June 2023, Cruz was appointed at the 476th Chemical Battalion’s (S4) Logistics Supervisor in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.

From June 2023-July 2024, Cruz commanded the 323rd Chemical Company’s (AS) forward element, based out of Sioux Falls, SD, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Spartan Shield based in Camp Buehring, Kuwait.

Upon returning from deployment, Captain Cruz was accepted into the Active Guard Reserve Program.

Her awards and decorations include Army Commendation Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (4th award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, a 2024 MG William L. Sibert Award recipient, and a 2024 General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award recipient.

Senior Military Science Instructor- Master Sergeant Zachary Rosser

MSG Rosser is a native of Sanford, NC. He entered the Army in November of 2009 as a 14T (Launching Station Enhanced Operator-Maintainer). He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Throughout his military service, he has served in multiple overseas assignments, broadening assignments, and held leadership positions from Squad Leader to First Sergeant.

Military Science Instructor- Sergeant First Class Obie Carswell

Sergeant First Class Obie C. Carswell is a Military Science Instructor and Operations Sergeant for Vanderbilt University Army ROTC.

Sergeant First Class Carswell is from Morganton, North Carolina and entered the United States Army on 06 July 2006. He completed One Station Unit Training as a 12B, Combat Engineer, at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Sergeant First Class Carswell has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and New Dawn.

Sergeant First Class Carswell is married to his wife Christina and they have four children.

Military Science Instructor- Sergeant First Class Corey Poindexter

Sergeant First Class Corey D. Poindexter l is a Military Science Instructor for Vanderbilt University Army ROTC.

SFC Corey Poindexter was born in Brewton, Alabama, on May 20, 1991. He grew up in Evergreen, AL, and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2009. He attended Alabama, University and Troy University from 2009-2010. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 2010 and attended One Station Unit Training as a 21B Combat Engineer in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

SFC Poindexter has served in several positions, including Vehicle Driver, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Drill Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant. He is currently serving as a Military Science Instructor at Vanderbilt University

SFC Poindexter has completed two combat rotation to Afghanistan, and he has been stationed at Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Bragg, NC, Nashville TN, and overseas at Fort Wainwright, AK

His military education includes Master Leader Course, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course, Senior Leaders Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course (EOL), Master Resilience Training (MRT), Drill Sergeant School, Engineer Explosive Ordnance Clearance Agent (EEOCA), Urban Mobility Breaching, Advanced Leader Course (ALC), Advanced Situational Awareness Basic (ASAB), Unit Prevention Leader Course (UPL), Dual Sensor Mine Detector, Combative Level 1&2, Air Assaults School and Basic Leader Course. SFC Poindexter is married to his devoted wife, Shanita Poindexter, for 9 years, and together, they have a seven-year old daughter, Briley Poindexter.

Military Science Instructor- Mr. Ethan Orr

Mr. Ethan Orr enlisted into the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1994 with the 30th Quartermaster Battalion as a Signal Support Soldier, later transferring to the Alabama National Guard’s 20th Special Force Group. After six years with the National Guard, in 2000, he commissioned into the Field Artillery (FA) through ROTC program at Alabama A&M University.

His assignments include 1/15th FA, 2nd ID at Camp Casey, Korea as a Company Fire Support Officer; Fire Direction Officer and Platoon Leader with 1/321st FA (Airborne), XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery; Assistant S3 and Battery Commander for B/3-319th FA in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC; 2/315th FA Training Support Battalion (TSBN) at Fort Dix, NJ; Brigade Fire Support Officer and 1/82nd FA’s Operations Officer with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. After completing the Command and General Staff College, Mr. Orr served in the J37 Training and Exercise Branch, United States Forces Korea; Assistant Professor Military Science at Norwich University. His final assignment was with the United States Forces Command’s (FORSCOM) as the Ground Liaison Officer to Air Mobility Command, Scott AFB and the US Air Warfare Center, Nellis AFB, completing his service as the Desk Officer for US Army Warfighter Exercises.

Overseas assignments include Taszar, Hungary, three years in the Republic of Korea, three years in Iraq and Kuwait in support of Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn/Spartan Shield.

Formal Education include a BS in Business-Marketing from the University of Alabama-Huntsville, a Master of Business Administration-Marketing from Columbia Southern University, and a Master of Arts in Military History from Norwich University. Military education includes the Mountain Warfare Course (Summer), Basic Airborne and Jump Master course, Artillery Basic and Advanced Officer Course, the Command & General Staff College, and Military Historian course.

Mr. Darrell Thompson

Mr. Thompson joined the “Go Gold” Battalion in May of 2018 after serving as the Marketing and Advertising Manager for 7th Brigade Army ROTC HQ.  Mr. Thompson has been with cadet Command for ten years since his retirement from active duty (US Army) with 21 years of service to his country. During his career, he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant (MSG).

Mr. Thompson’s duty positions while on active duty included: Senior Military Science Instructor, Army ROTC (Tennessee Tech University), Platoon Sergeant, US Army Recruiter, TOW Anti-Tank Missile crew instructor, Equal Opportunity Officer, TOW Master Gunner Course Instructor, Squad Leader, and Track Vehicle Operator. Mr. Thompson’s assignments included 1/327th IN, and 1/502nd IN, Fort Campbell, KY, 2/29th IN, Fort Benning, GA, 1/503rd IN, Camp Casey Korea, 1/15th IN, Kitzingen, Germany, Iraq and Wichita, KS.

Mr. Thompson, is a graduate of the Recruiting Operations Officers Course, Human Resources Assistant course, Advanced NCO Course, Equal Opportunity course, US Army Recruiting/Retention course, Basic NCO Course, Primary Leader Development course, TOW master Gunner course, Instructor Trainer Course, Master Fitness Course, US Army Airborne School, and US Army Air Assault School.  Mr. Thompson is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a Bachelor’s degree in education.  He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Organizational Development and Leadership.

Mr. Thompson’s Civilian awards include the 2014 Brigade Civilian of the Year and the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.

His previous assignments include Logistics Management Specialist, Logistics Management Specialist (Ammo), and Squad Leader, C Company, 1st Battalion, 3d US Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard (TOG).

Mr. Bradley is a graduate from Ammo Hazmat Course, Six Sigma, Advance Noncommissioned Officer's Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer's Course, Unit Supply Specialist Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Unit Prevention Leader Course, Leadership Development Course, Airborne School, Jungle Survival Course, Ranger Indoctrination Program, Infantry Combat Basic Course.

Additionally, he graduated with an Associate's Degree in Business from Calhoun College, and a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems from Columbia College, Columbia MO.

Mr. Walden joined the “Go Gold” Battalion as an Administrative Assistant in March of 1997 after his retirement from active duty military with 22 years of service to his country. During his career, he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC).

He began his career in the Army as an enlisted Soldier in the branch of Field Artillery and after his initial enlistment changed his branch to administration. SFC Walden entered the Army in 1975. He attended Basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

SFC Walden's assignments include Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; United States Army Detachment, Izmir, Turkey; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Division Support Command, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Headquarters Company, 8th United States Army, Yongsan, Korea; 86th Evacuation Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; United States Army MEDDAC, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 23rd Area Support Group, Camp Humphreys, Korea, and Vanderbilt University Army ROTC Detachment, Nashville, Tennessee.

His military schooling includes the Inspector General Orientation Course; Advanced Noncommissioned Officer's Course; Senior Leadership Refresher Course; Primary Leadership Development Course; Battalion Training Management Course; SIDPERS Unit Level Training Course and Field Artillery Basic Course.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 8th Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Good Conduct Medal 7th Award.
