Chancellor Search Committee

The Chancellor Search Committee is charged by the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust with conducting the search for Vanderbilt University’s ninth chancellor. The committee comprises current and emerita members of the Board of Trust, faculty and  staff and will lead efforts to search for and select an outstanding candidate for recommendation to the full Board of Trust. Its members are:

  • Bruce R. Evans, Board of Trust chairman, senior advisor with Summit Partners, Chancellor Search Committee chair
  • Douglas Adams, Daniel F. Flowers Professor of Engineering and Distinguished Professor and chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering *
  • Adolpho A. Birch III , Board of Trust secretary, senior vice president of labor policy, National Football League
  • Shirley M. Collado , president of Ithaca College
  • Martha Ingram, former Board of Trust chairman
  • John Geer , dean of the College of Arts and Science and the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professor of Political Science, will serve as the chair of the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee *
  • Sarah Igo , associate professor of history and faculty director of E. Bronson Ingram College *
  • Candice Storey Lee, associate vice chancellor for university affairs and deputy athletic director *
  • Steven H. Madden Sr. , CEO, Apex Heritage Group
  • Mark P. Mays , CEO Rocking M Capital / Mays Family Enterprises
  • David Owens , professor of the practice of management and innovation
  • Courtney C. Pastrick , board chair of the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation

*This individual also serves on the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee, which comprises faculty, students, staff and alumni and was appointed by Board of Trust and Chancellor Search Committee Chairman Evans to gather feedback from university constituents to inform the work of the Chancellor Search Committee.

Chancellor Search Advisory Committee

The Chancellor Search Advisory Committee is charged with assisting in the  search for the university’s ninth chancellor . The Advisory Committee, comprising faculty, staff, students and alumni, will gather, synthesize and provide advice to the Search Committee on the priorities the next chancellor should address, as well as discern the qualities that individual should possess.
