The Health Professions Advisory Office "WALK IN" hours, with Dr. Baum, on Fridays are being suspended for the next two months as that time block is needed for scheduling ASAP interviews. If you need an appointment to discuss issues not related to the ASAP process, please call Karen Laws at 322-2446 and she will be happy to arrange a 30 minute meeting for you as the schedule permits. You can always feel free to come by the office, send us an e-mail, or address your question to Karen and she will be happy to assist you in getting an answer to your question. Junior Honors Medical Program - University of Florida The Junior Honors Medical program (JHMP) is a combined (seven year) B.S./M.D. program offered by the University of Florida. State of Florida residents enrolled at U.F. or who are attending other institutions nationwide are welcome to apply. This program is intended for undergratuate students who have demonstrated superior scholastic ability and personal development during their first two academic years of college enrollment, and who are dedicated to pursuing medicine as a career. In addition, as the JHMP requires a year of Honors Thesis research, students who are interested in the possibility of pursuing research in medical school and who are considering physician scientist track are encouraged to apply. If accepted into this program, a student secures a place in medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine as long as the JHMP requirements are completed and academic standards are maintained. Appliccations to the JHMP is made during the spring of the students's second year of college (sophomore) enrollment. While this program is at present limited to 12 students per year, expansion of the program is planned over the next two years. To All Students Applying to Medical AND DENTAL SchoolS in 2009:

The Advisor's Student Applicant Portfolio (ASAPPDF file) is a document helpful to the Health Professions Advisor in creating meaningful recommendations highlighting information important to the students. Completing the ASAP is required if you wish to receive a composite letter (Earlier is better). Students are also advised to start thinking about which faculty members to approach for letters of recommendation.

Since the begining of 2007, the MCAT has been administered by computer. There are fewer seats per testing date and site than under the previous system, but there are also more testing dates. It is still not clear how many seats are actually available at each testing site. In order to help insure that you get your desired site and date you will need to sign up as soon as registration opens. See the MCAT information in the Testing Services section of the Applications page for details.
