About F2P2
Overview
The Future Faculty Preparation Program -
F2P2 - is a self-directed program of professional development
for all Vanderbilt graduate students and postdocs interested
in academic positions. As part of a national trend to "develop
the future professoriate," F2P2 has two goals:
-
Introduce participants to the wide range
of faculty roles and responsibilities by acquainting them
with the operations of various types of academic institutions
and the day-to-day life of faculty members in those institutions.
-
Recognize graduate students and postdocs
who engage in activities to prepare themselves for their
future faculty careers.
The voluntary, flexible, participant-driven,
and cross-disciplinary aspects of F2P2 result in a program
that is rigorous, equitable, and cost-effective. Participants
complete activities at their own pace during their entire
tenure at Vanderbilt so that progress in their research programs
is not hindered. Interacting with colleagues from a variety
of disciplines encourages participants to be actively involved
in the academic community, as will be expected of them as
faculty. Many graduate students and postdocs already engage
in professional development activities through their departments,
professional organizations, or personal networking. F2P2 organizes,
supplements, and recognizes those efforts, making such opportunities
available to all graduate students and postdocs.
The Summary Chart of F2P2 Requirements presents a high-level view of F2P2, while the Program Checklist lists the documentation required for the specific program activities completed by F2P2 participants.
