Jackson Watts Moore, a trustee since 2002, earned his B.S. from the University of Alabama in 1970 and his J.D. from the Vanderbilt School of Law in 1973.

He served on active duty in the United States military, holding the rank of Captain in the United States Army and Army Reserves.

An attorney by training, Mr. Moore was the managing partner in one of Memphis’ largest law firms prior to joining Union Planters Corporation in 1989. Mr. Moore was the chairman, president, and CEO of Union Planters when it merged with Regions Financial in mid-2004.

He became Chairman and CEO of Regions Financial in 2005 and following a merger of Regions Financial and AmSouth Bancorporation, both headquartered in Birmingham, he became Executive Chairman of the consolidated company, one of the 10 largest bank holding companies headquartered in the US.
Mr. Moore currently serves on the boards of Youth Programs, Inc., is the owner and producer of Memphis’ Standard Financial Golf Tournament and on the Board of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama and the Board of the Tennessee Bankers’ Association. He is also a member of the President’s Cabinet at the University of Alabama.

He is a former chairman of the Memphis Regional Chamber of Commerce, and he previously served on the boards of Mid-South Public Communication Corporation (WKNO), LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center, Memphis Development Foundation, the Dean’s Executive Advisory Board of the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis, the Memphis Zoological Society, the Church Health Center, and the Hutchinson School. He is also a past member of both the Young Presidents’ Organization and the World Presidents’ Organization. The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored him as a recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

He and his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth (Betty), have three children, Jackson Watts Junior, who received his M.B.A. from Vanderbilt, Wilson, and Shellye, who received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt, and four grandchildren.
