Drug, Alcohol & Tobacco Policies
Substance Abuse Policy
It is a violation of University policy for any student to:
- possess or use illicit drugs
- use any medication or substance for any purpose other than that for which it is intended.
Substance-free Areas
Certain floors in several residence halls will be designated as "substance-free" floors prior to
the local selection and random selection dates. On these floors, the possession or consumption of
tobacco products, alocoholic beverages, or recreational drugs by students and their guests is prohibited.
Substance-free floors will be clearly designated at both the local selection and general random selection processes.
Alcohol Policy
Age Restriction
It is a violation of University policy for any student under the age of 21 to possess or use
alcoholic beverages.
Use of Alcohol in Substance-free Areas
The possession or consumption of alocoholic beverages by students and their guests in a substance-free
area is prohibited.
Tobacco Policy
Smoking
All areas of the Vanderbilt residence halls are designated as "smoke-free". Smoking is not permitted in
any common area or private room of any residence hall or residential complex. Smoking is permitted
only outside the buildings.
Use of Tobacco in Substance-free Areas
The possession or consumption of any tobacco product, including "smokeless" tobacco, by students and their guests in a substance-free
area is prohibited.
