Another Record Year For Move In Cardboard Recycling

Posted by on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in Events, News, Waste & Recycling.

The cardboard recycling results from Move-In 2014 make it another record year with 37.26 tons of cardboard recycled! This is a 5.31% increase over last year and a 453.64% increase since 2007!

The nearly 75,000 pounds collected this year average to about 11 pounds for each of the undergraduate students at Vanderbilt. The collection of cardboard at Move-In over the last eight years totals nearly 319,000 pounds, resulting in approximately 2,700 mature trees being saved and over 38,000 cubic feet of landfill space being conserved.

The collaborative effort of Cardboard Crew volunteers, Student Promoting Environmental Awareness and Responsibility (SPEAR), Plant Operations Grounds Department, and Sustainability and Environmental Management Office (SEMO) comes together each year to demonstrate a commitment to environmentally responsible practices and to help make Vanderbilt a more sustainable enterprise.

A Job Well Done and a huge THANK YOU to all who recycled during Move In 2014!
