Share your priorities for addressing climate change in Nashville
In early 2020, Mayor John Cooper announced the formation of Nashville’s Sustainability Advisory Committee, comprising more than 50 community volunteers including Vanderbilt University faculty and staff. Co-chaired by Vanderbilt University’s Eric Kopstain and Linda Breggin, the committee developed a Climate Action Plan for the city of Nashville that outlines recommended strategies to address climate change across a variety of sustainability categories, including energy, green buildings, mobility, waste reduction, natural resources and climate adaptation and resilience.
Vanderbilt is a key leader in sustainability in the region, achieving its carbon neutrality goal in spring 2021 through an innovative collaboration with Climate Vault. Additional efforts on campus and in the Nashville community around sustainability include on-site clean energy, off-site large-scale renewable energy, decreased carbon footprint from vehicles, more green spaces on campus, reduced waste, decreased consumption, and investments in sustainable infrastructure. We need Vanderbilt community members to learn more about the city’s plans to address climate change and voice their perspectives on sustainability efforts that will impact them.
