Friday Evening

Friday night (6-10 pm) there will be a reception at Alumni Hall at Vanderbilt University, in room 100 (the Alumni Lounge).  There will be drinks and local food staples (barbeque, spicy chicken, vegetarian).  Please consult the map below to locate Alumni Hall.  Note that as you walk through Vanderbilt's campus, it is on the main quad (Alumni Lawn) and right behind the big building (Kirkland Hall) with the single clock tower, which is visible from across campus.  See the campus map:

Please call John Janusek if you get lost: 615-491-2040!

Saturday Evening

Saturday night there will be a festive interlude before the keynote presentation and immediately after.  There are many fine dinner options in the vicinity or in nearby downtown Nashville (a list will be made available before the conference).

Since the last Midwest conference in Nashville, the city has become a true culinary center and 'foodie' destination.  For those interested in a fantastic meal, a few great options are: Husk: farm-to-table nouveaux southern (and in a fantastic nineteenth century building):

City House: Fantastic appetizers and handmade pizzas (also in a great old building) http://cityhousenashville.com/

Rolf and Daughters: European based farm-to-table cuisine.  Written up in Bon Apetite as one of the top ten new restaurants in the nation. See the menu: http://www.rolfanddaughters.com/

Do make reservations well in advance!  These places fill up quickly.  After dinner, there will be informal dancing and drinking downtown at the local Nashville 'honkey tonks' beginning at ~9 PM.  The most famous are located on the north side of Broadway Ave. (US Hwy 70) between Fourth and Fifth Streets.  Robert's Western World rocks this planet.  Neighboring Legends and Tootsies are also great.  Shuttles from hotels as well as taxis are readily available to bring and take home staggering conference participants.
