Office Hours
Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research IRB Office Hours are every Tuesday and Wednesday, 1-2 p.m. through Zoom (meeting link).
Which IRB reviews my research?
See descriptions of the flowchart categories. VU PIs submitting to the VUMC IRB must include the HRPP Determination with their study material.
Transition your studies from VUMC IRB
Which Studies Should Transition?
Active, ongoing SBER studies already approved by the VUMC IRB or BRANY should transition to the VU SBER IRB. This includes most SBER full committee and expedited studies, as well as exempt studies with limited review. You are encouraged to make the transition at natural pauses in your research to minimize disruption for participants and study teams. Examples include:
- finishing data collection and beginning analysis
- launching a new phase that adds collaborators or complexity
- shifting to secondary analysis or new study questions
Studies that should remain with VUMC IRB:
- Projects nearing completion (expected to close within 6 months)
- Exempt studies that do not require follow-up
- Multi-site projects with a single IRB of record, including those where Vanderbilt relies on another institution
- Biomedical studies and those with VUMC patients/patient data
How to Transition
Studies cannot be transferred directly between IRBs. Follow these steps to prevent gaps in approval and keep your research running smoothly.
- Submit a new protocol to the Vanderbilt IRB with your study details
- Wait for approval from the new IRB
- Close the corresponding study with VUMC and include the reasoning “Transitioned to the VU IRB"
