Vandy Walks -€œNatchez Trace Historical Tour-€

-€“ September 17th, 12pm-1pm

The tour will place the Vanderbilt “Natchez Trace” in the context of the early settlement period of Nashville when the Natchez Trace was one of the first federal highways and one of President Thomas Jefferson’s achievements.   Learn about the generals, future presidents, Chickasaw chiefs, evangelists, settlers, and land pirates who traveled the road during the formative period of the southern United States, and how the road fulfilled President Jefferson’s goal to expand the boundaries of the United States.

Boxing Clinics: Beginner and Advanced

Learn to bob, weave, and move like a professional boxer in our professional boxing clinics. Registration is now open for beginner and advanced participants-no experience necessary and all clinics are non-contact. Registration deadline is September 25th.

Friday, September 18, 12 -1PM Vandy Cooks with Kayla Little, RD: Desserts Topped Off with Mindful Eating

Join Kayla as she talks about mindful eating and demonstrates preparation of recipes perfect for savoring. Taking the time to enjoy the eating experience or -€˜mindful eating-€™ allows you to be more aware of what and how much you are eating. Eating mindfully is deliberately paying attention, being fully aware of internal and external feelings within yourself and your environment with all working to develop your having a better relationship with food and overeating.

Ms. Little has worked in the wellness field for several years with experience in nutrition, personal training, group exercise, and facility management. As a practicing registered dietitian since 2010, she has experience in counseling individuals and groups of all ages on eating for balance and health. Ms. Little developed and currently leads the nutrition programming at FitRx Treatment Center in Brentwood, TN – a licensed facility focusing on the treatment of binge eating disorder.

The Vandy Cooks demonstrations are offered monthly in the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center Demonstration Kitchen to celebrate healthy eating at Vanderbilt.   The demonstration kitchen is located on the first floor of the Center.

There is a $10 Guest Pass for non-student and non-rec center members.

Wednesday, September 16, 11:30 AM -€“ 12:30 PM -€“ Chard: The Vegetable Valedictorian of Its Class

A member of the beet family, chard is grown for its leaves rather than its roots. Enjoy the Chard and Wheat Berry Frittata samples as you learn about the advantages of eating this delightful vegetable.

5k & Half Marathon Running Clinics

Beginner to seasoned runners are encouraged to come train for the Nashville Marathon and be taught by VRWC Fitness Associates for FREE! Training plans each week, no pre-registration needed, additional informational sessions on proper gear, and attend 10 sessions to get entered for multiple free entries into the Nashville Marathon! The clinic runs September 10th -€“ October 29th.
