The FutureVU team is hosting its 2nd annual PARK(ing) Day event on Friday, September 21st, from  9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.PARK(ing) Day is celebrated across the world each year as parking spaces are transformed into temporary parks and green spaces for the day, and Vanderbilt is taking part in local festivities coordinated by the Nashville Civic Design Center. The university’s park, comprising 18 parking spaces located at the corner of Broadway and 20th  Avenue, will highlight aspects of FutureVU and its guiding principles.

The park will feature:

  • Breakfast items at 9:00am

  • A unique structure to create shade and beat the heat!
  • VRWC body blades class at 12:30pm
  • Las Paletas at 12:30pm
  • Water feature
  • Art
  • Landscaping and seating
  • Sustainable features and materials
  • And more!

As part of PARK(ing) Day, the Nashville Civic Design Center holds a competition for the best parks using several categories like “most engaging” or “sustainable”, “wow factor”, etc., so we’ll have more details on how you can vote next week! We hope you will come out to the park to take a break from class or work and enjoy the transformation of parking spaces into community space.
