Waitlist Process

If a class is full, you may be able to join a waitlist. Students are added to the waitlist in the order requests are processed. Please note that joining a waitlist does not guarantee enrollment in the class.

Waitlist Process

  • The waitlist process runs eight times a day, every three hours.
  • If a seat becomes available, the waitlist process will attempt enrollment for the first student on the waitlist and follow in sequential order.
  • The waitlist process will fail to enroll you for the following reasons:
    • A time conflict exists with a course in which you are already enrolled
    • You would be enrolled in too many credits for the term or session
    • You are already enrolled in another section of this course
    • You have not satisfied course pre- or co-requisites
    • Departmental or Instructor consent is needed
    • Seats may be reserved
  • If the waitlist process fails to enroll you, you will receive a notification indicating the reason. Please note that there may be multiple reasons that the process would fail to enroll you; the system stops trying after it encounters the first issue.
  • If the waitlist process fails to enroll you, it will move to the next student on the waitlist to attempt enrollment. Your position on the waitlist is retained, and if another seat becomes available, the system will attempt enrollment again in order.

Please keep in mind that seats become open often throughout the registration process as other students change their minds about courses, switch sections, etc. This can happen sometimes as late as the first week of classes as students adjust their schedules through the drop/add period.

Drop-if-enrolled

When you add yourself to a waitlist during your registration window or the Open Enrollment (add/drop) period, use the drop-if-enrolled functionality to address potential issues such as time conflicts, credit overload, or enrollment in another section of the same class.

Please note that if you set up drop-if-enrolled after the waitlist process fails to enroll you, you will not be automatically enrolled in the class.
